PROMOTING LOCAL COMMUNITY THROUGH CYCLING

CYCLING IN THE REA VALLEY

Everything is better when the whole community is involved, and that’s a hope we have for the Hub. We want it to be more than a shop, but instead an active promotor of the local community through cycling and rural commerce. In other words, we’d like to do our bit for Shrewsbury and it’s people.

Through scheduled weekly rides (read below for more information) and various other events we hope to connect people who wouldn’t otherwise meet each other, which can only be a good thing.

CYCLING4ALL  SHROPSHIRE

Cycling 4 All Shropshire is an affiliate organisation of the CTC (National Cycling Charity) – created by individuals who are passionate about giving everyone in Shropshire the opportunity to cycle if they want to.

Their aims are:

  • Sign-post individuals and groups to new and existing cycling initiatives in the county; who provide opportunities to cycle with support and where necessary on specialist adaptive cycles.
  • Advise would-be cyclists on solutions to the little things which can be the ‘big obstacles’ to riding.
  • Encourage cycling event planners to be more inclusive in their scope.
  • Attract funding to support inclusive cycling opportunities.
  • Remove barriers to cycling across Shropshire.

STOP BY FOR A CHAT

Here at the Cycling Hub we believe that anyone can and should enjoy the experience and benefits of cycling, but that doesn’t start by putting someone on a bike and shouting ‘Go’, it starts with conversation and coffee (..or tea).

We may be new to retail, but Quest 88 has 27 years of experience when it comes to personal assessments, which means that when it comes to getting you comfortable on a bicycle, we know what we’re doing. If you have even the tiniest of desires to see what riding a bicycle would be like, pop into the shop and have a chat with any of our staff as to how we can help you. Once a conversation has taken place, we can then look to take you on a free test ride of one of our electric bikes or adaptive cycles.

WEEKLY WEDNESDAY RIDES

Running the shop is fantastic, but there’s simply nothing better than actually getting on a bike and going for a ride. That’s why every Wednesday we close up shop for an hour or two to explore the Shropshire Hills and anybody is welcome to join us.

The ‘Weekly Wednesday Rides’ are fully supported by our certified ride leaders, and are not necessarily for the heads down, go fast cyclist. Our rides are set at a gentle pace on carefully thought out routes so that the focus is on enjoying conversation and scenery. Age preference is anyone over 12 years old (minors accompanied by responsible adult). We aim to leave the shop at about 1pm to be back by 3pm, but encourage riders to arrive at least 20 minutes prior for bike checks, coffee and to discuss the route. The ride is fair-weather dependant, so please get in touch to check it’s on.

ADVICE SESSIONS

In the shop we are always up for giving out advice when possible, but we know there are some things that can only be learned through doing it yourself. That’s why we’re proud to announce our Shropshire-based Cycling Advice Sessions.

Quest 88 would like to offer practical advice sessions on a few basic things you need to know about your electric or regular bicycle. From a basic and easy check of your bike to what to do with that dreaded puncture whilst you are out on the road, these sessions should give you the confidence to maintain your bike in a simple way.

Our Advice Sessions are to start very soon, if you are interested please get in touch.
